...and rain
The meterologists claim that the summer is here, it is suposed to be sunny and 15 degr out there today and this is supposed to continue for at least a week, with the temperature increasing. (Don't like the weather report? Well though shit, I am form Iceland, and we discuss the weather) However I don't get to enjoy any of this fabolous weather as I am inside struggling with my thesis. I take these reposts of summer with a grain of salt, you see in FEBRUARY they declared it was spring, only in March we had a week with snowstorms and all white, just last weekend there was snow and hail.........!!!!
I am getting seriously tired and my body seriously screwed up from sitting and writing all day, I do try to go out and walk, work out and do yoga. Can't wait to finish. My May is really packed; -Hand in theisis -Defend thesis -Turkey -Get a full time job -Move in with B -Plan major party
Hopefully I get to just focus on life and work during the summer, then in September I am hopefully coming home for a short vacation, with B and the in-laws
Anyone want to finish this thesis crap for me
Rome is not coming, it was awesome, very informative, lot of good food and wine, photos are on Facebook, peace out.I am feeling: frustrated

|
....is the word of the week.
Need to:
- Finish poster
- Work more
- Do an AFS thing tomorrow
- Have coffee with Master students on Friday
- Go to a party on Saturday
- Do the dishes
- Do laundry
- Pack for Rome
- Apply for jobs
Feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment.
Want to:
- Go skiing
- Have a moment without feeling guilty that I should be doing something else
I was finally seeing the light at the end of the Rome tunnel, just to realize that just up a head is yet another tunnel, even longer, called Masters Thesis.
I will be fine, just need to work through this stuff and I think lasagna and Italian wine might be just what the doctor ordered ;)
Thanks of the week goes to B, for taking me for a walk and dinner on Sunday and making me forget about all the things above, at least for a couple of hours.I am feeling: stressed

..they are a changing
One of my closest and best friend has shacked up with a BOY, who is not a roommate!!!! Another friend is also moving in with her boyfriend. One good friend is planning a WEDDING. I am LIVING in Norway and working, More and more people around me seem to be in twos, either I am meeting couples or people are getting together. I have friends who are living almost all over the globe and they seem to keep on spreading. I keep seeing pictures of friends' babies or apartments. I am going to have a MASTERS DEGREE in just a few months.....
WHEN the hell did everybody become so f... grown up.
Anyways in other news, Rome is approaching faster than I would like. I have been soo busy, trying to balance as much time as possible at the lab, with work, AFS and partying. This has meant over 14 hour days, very little sleep, saturday nights at the lab. Partying has also been really busy, very often 2 parties a weekend. The highlight were last weekend with Torrablot, where Eiki Hauks tore off the roof with Gaggo West, rarely have I sung that loud. Another highlight was a Trønderfest with AK (a Aquamedicin masterstudent from school). Basically this was a redneck party Norwegian style with a LOT of alcohol, stupid songs, cheesy 80' singers. I supplied some brennivin and we finished the bottle, in addition to the homemade spirit mixed in coffee 50/50 and the Trønder tequila which I learned is 60 proof vodka. You dip a lemon in Nescafe on one side sugar on the other, shoot the vodka and suck the lemon. Deadly fun, I somehow made my way home at 5 AM. I have to say that the night before I was at a party with work and came back at 3 AM that night.
The spring plan is filling up quick: *Mom is coming on tuesday, staying until friday *I will be working hard until the 5th of March *2 day conference in ROME then a few days to check out the city, travel tips welcomed *Easter, my sister is coming for a visit, need plans, but we are going to see James Blunt *April is kind of empty, as I need to finish my thesis before May 1st *Once that is delivered I am off to Turkey with B *After that I have to defend my thesis *Graduating june 13th *And then what.....?????I am feeling: busy Playing right now: see above

» My boring...
...life
About a year ago my life was SOOO more exciting. I was dating, had just met the man that I would later start dating and fall in love with. I am not saying that I do not enjoy my life, I have a fab boyfriend, cool masterproject, no crazy neighbour (anymore), great friends and family, lots of planetickets and plans for the future. It is just that I don't feel like writing about these things. Honestly right now the thing I really want to talk about is SCIENCE stuff :) I want to do a hardcore blog about my project what I am doing and how it is going, but I doubt any of you would 1)Understand 2)Be interested and I don't feel like simplifying things. So instead I will do this , write about the other things in my life, just so you at least know that I am alive, and go look for a hardcore science blog or a discussion forum.
Life has been busy although as previously mentioned boring.
AFS Been busy with AFS, getting shocked over the fact that 17 year olds don't know how to cook pasta!!! and getting drunk with some cool girls.
FISN I am now sitting on two boards, AFS Oslo and FISN, the Icelandic student union. We are really trying to kick ass at FISN, we have scheduled several events, a cake party, beer nights, a 1st of december red themed party and we cleaned Guðrúnarstofa better than it has been cleaned in YEARS, you should have seen the dirt in some places. By the way if you have any money you don't know what to do with FISN will happily take donations :)
VISIT My sister came for a visit and we represented Iceland at this years Fjosfest, and we had fun, talked to some cool first year masters from the US, Norway and Uganda (my sister got VERY good travel tips for Uganda, which she might very well use since she is studying tourism) We also did some shopping including at the GIGANTIC largest mall in Scandinavia Sandvika Storsenter. That was BIG, we were slightly underimpressed in the beginning, thinking it wasn't so big, but then we turned a corner and realized that it really was BIG. We had fun, met some Icelanders there by total chance and more importantly found Sostrene Grene and stocked up on some party stuff.
TRIP I am going to Copenhagen in a week for some shopping, girlfriend gabbing at a cafe, and meeting mom. My plan was to go to Sostrene but I don't need that anymore as I found it in Sandvika. But I will do Christmas shopping and return just in time for the Red themed Christmas party.
BOYFRIEND Is still awesome but I have been freaking out a bit lately since our first anniversary is coming up. I was soo not looking for a boyfriend a year ago but this year has been great. We are doing this on our terms, taking things as they come. Since coming back from my three months away we have been stepping out a lot more, going to bars, movies and the theater. We saw Erasmus Montanus the other week and I enjoyed it even though I did not understand everything. B also had problems understanding but just different parts than me. See I could not understand ALL the Norwegian things and B could not understand all the the Latin (that is where I could understand things cause of my Spanish). He has agreed to go with me to the Red themed party cause of the free booze we have, but I l leave out the part about the theme.....what do you think he will do when I hand him a Santa's hat, you know he only wears black, possibly dark blue....
END I am coming home for Christmas, get yourselves ready, I land on the 17th in the afternoon and would love to meet for at least a coffee then. The day after I am working for like 13 hours, then have a 2 nights off and am working Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then comes Christmas and I want to meet for a drink between the holidays. New years I am open for suggestions and the week after as much quality time as possible sine I fly back on the 9th.

...depression
The weather her has decided to follow my mood, it has been gray and blah, and then yesterday came the first real fall weather, with a LOT of rain and wind. I remember the weather being so much better last year, I was just looking through my old calendar yesterday and saw that on October 10th I went to the Ice-cream factory and that day the weather was so nice we sat outside eating our ice-cream, I wonder if I can smuggle my way to this years trip, I mean there are only 6 students in the new class we were 9.... There were a couple of other interesting notes in that calendar reminding me that at this time last year I was single and ready to mingle. The calendar also showed that Oslo was more happening a year ago, Snowpatrol concert, October fest, as far as I can tell there is no student October fest this year and there are no interesting concerts coming up :(
Everything is slowly falling into pieces, the neighbor situation is being looked into, I have ALMOST conquered the bugs, AFS is rolling along nicely, I am getting the hang of things at the lab (despite making ALL the mistakes in the book yesterday), I have a computer at school (still have to get access to a real MSN and the stuff I had on the computer including some programs needed for my project), I have my semester sticker so I am a valid student, I get my gym card on Monday, B wants us to plan a vacation together, I am going phone hunting today after school see it is all getting better.

» A buggered....
...homecoming
Coming back to Oslo was bittersweet, I got to meet B again (amazing), I got back to my room (amazing), one of my floor mates snapped at me for no reason (bad), there were (are) bugs in my cupboard (BAD), I got sick (bad), my project is off to a slow start (good and bad).
Leaving everyone back home sucks, I hate the guilt I always feel by leaving people, friends, family my sister, and I want to stay but I also know that it if I don't go I will not be happy and then they will not be happy. I hate not making my aunts funeral or her memorial service.
I felt like in Iceland I know what I am doing, everything is familiar and here even though things look familiar they don't feel that way. At school my project is slowly getting off the ground, I am slowly settling inn but I still feel like I need a lot of hand holding and I do not like that I want to do things myself. I went to school on Monday and had like two hours work to do, it ended up taking 4-5 hours since I had to wait for my supervisor to be finished with a meeting so she could show me how to set up the gel electrophoresis. Yesterday I was home sick (just a cold) so I had to get the supervisor to do cultures for me and today I did not get in until it was to late to do what i needed to do, so I did some cultures and went home. I feel so inadequate, but I know that this will pass and that soon I will get back on track and get more confidence, it is just so frustrating right now.
On top of everything and being sick by neighbor flipped yesterday cause I asked her to stop borrowing my food and stuff without asking. It ended up in her screaming and accusing me of attacking her cause I tired to prevent her for slamming the door. I sent a mail to the residence advproblemsisor and she is calling me tonight to discuss the incident and what can be done. I hate this kind of confrontation and I know that it will a be a long and difficult process to resolve this.
And then all that was left were the bugs. When I got back there were bugs in my flour (ok don't start telling me I should have sealed the flour better, I know that now). I hate bugs and they are very stubborn refusing to leave even after two thorough cleanings and poisoning. However I am more stubborn and I will poison them until I am the last one standing. The only good thing about the bugs is that B really, really cares about me. He was great, helped me clean every thing, comforted me as I was hysterical thinking they were crawling all over. I swear that if he had not been there I would have given up and just left...... He has by the way been the perfect boyfriend since I have been back, dealing with the bugs, my fear of bugs, my cold. After the cleanup that first day he took me out for a walk, then to a bar for a couple of beers and finally to a restaurant where we had some pizza, I suspect that he knew that I did not want to eat at home with the bugs :)
For all friends and family, this entry might sound bad but it is just a little adjustment problems, I will be fine in about two days or so. The cold is going a way, I have almost won the bugs, the neighbor situation is in process and I am going to kick ass at school tomorrow.
Shit happens, you whine about it on your blog and move on :)

» Testicles....
...not scrota
You see there is a difference beween the two and I had to learn about that today. The scrota is the sack that covers the testicles. This difference is important to my paper on the Icelandic delicacy Ram Testicles, in Icelandic they are called Ram's scrota but they do not include the scrota at all, just the testicles.
Today I also had my final class, not just this semester but in theory I do not have to attend any more classes for my Master Thesis. Next year will be spent in the lab working on my E.coli project. I was very happy leaving the class and as I walked to the computer lab I was excited about what was to come. After being in the lab for a while my mood came crashing down. I relized that I could fly to see my sister graduate tomorrow for only 14.000 ISK, if only my mom was not coming for a visit on Saturday, (the earliest flight back was monday). If it had not been for mom I would be on my way home for at least a week, see my sister graduate, work on my paper (need some Icelandic references anyway), see friends and family and the fly back here for my exam........... I was really sad and frusterated that this does not work and I was already sad about missing my sisters graduation. I feel like I have been a bad sister lately, missing her 20th and her graduation!!!! But what can you do, at least B is going to distract me tomorrow and keep my mind of the fact that I am in Oslo not Reykjavík (ok must stop writing about this now before I start crying again)

» Drunk and...
...alone.
Ok, so I am not really THAT drunk, just had a beer with dinner and am sitting here with a vodka cocktail, but I have a reason, I am working myself up to the epilator. Usually I am fine with using it, hey I fell asleep during a wax once (in Thailand, and it included a massage), but I haven't used it in a while and I want to get all in one go, usually it takes about two goes to get nice and smooth and sometimes I even need a bonus round to get those last few straws.
I made it though my lecture yesterday, mostly by talking crap and adding a picture of an old microbiology tool from 1972. Hell I even got this comment from my teacher on the class bulletin board:
"Thank you everyone for your contribution to the Typing Symposium yesterday. I think it went well. Special mention to Sparrky for the Advanced Micro Course History of Bacteriology prize for the serology machine. I have loaded the lecture on clonality in bacteria and the review of the lab reports." After the lecture I went home, cleaned my crap of the floor, made chili and enjoyed a few hours with B until he had to go to work :( Having a boyfriend that works night SUCKES, having a boyfriend that has every other week off however RULES, especially when I have a class break until may 7th.
As for the job situation, I got the information job, at least until they found out I had to take a month long break, then they kindly thanked me for showing up and told me I could call when I finish school. And I will even though they were mostly being polite. However I had another interview that went really well, so well that the guy called me during my lecture (I think) but he hasn't called back. Hopefully he will on monday, then I have a night and weekend job and will get some MONEY.
Little Women is starting and it is time to break out the epilator
My sister is coming in a few weeks, and the my mom, before that there is EUROVISION, I have found out the schedule for the pre-Eurovision show and was able to catch a rerun of the first show. Sadly it looks as my Eurovision partner-in-crime is returning to Iceland before Eurovision :( But the party must go on, even if it is only me Sabine and B, if any Eurovision fans are passing through in the 10th or 12th of may feel free to let me know and you will be invited to the party. And for the record I have every plan to go downtown after the show and request Eurovison songs at any bar we might enter......

» Summer...
...time
This morning I had to turn the clock one hour towards summer, so that means even though my alarmclock said 8:00AM when I woke up it really was 9:00AM. And before you ask why I was up at 8 AM on a sunday, that is mostly cause I got a message from B who is turning from nightwatch so he had been up all night. Sadly though I was sort of half awake, this week has been so strange, most days I woke up before the alarm at 6:45. Those that know me know that I am NO morning person and getting up before 7 rarely happens, except before morning flights. A part of this can be attributed to the fact that I have been working in the lab from 8:30- at least 16:30 all week with my E.coli. I also think that part of this is the weather, it has been amazing the last week, temp arund 5-12 °C and sunny from 6AM to 7PM, the spring is certainly on the way.
I have not been very productive on the blogging scene lately, but that is only cause I have had too much else todo. Passed my statistics, am doing a 3 week microbe course, seeing B, working with AFS, trying to find a job, etc. Coming up after next week is 6 weeks off, I REALLY NEED TO FIND A JOB, still B has asked me to go with him to Voss, where he was raised and where is father lives. We are trying to figure out when we can go, but since i don't know if/when I will be working and his work schedule just changed this has been a challenge. Easter is approaching and I feel sad that I am away from my family, realized that Easter is family time and in some ways more so than Christmas, since there is less stress and demands. To add to my misery, B will be working all easter, I won't get a Noa easter egg (thankgod I saved the Noa Konfekt chocolate) and probably the only thing todo will be hiking with the rest of the Norwegians.
I can hardly believe that it has been over a year since I sent my application for the school here, then I was not shure what I was doing, now I am as happy as can be and do not regret my decision. After the six week holiday I start my final course this year and get ready to welcome my sister and mom, separately, can't wait to get a visit.
This week I bought my first actual furniture here, I replaced my TVbox nightstand with an actual nightstand, that I got cheap and a second hand store by school. I had to have it tied up with a rope and then carry it on the buss and onwards home. One of my classmembers saw me and did not know what to think about seeing be carrying a table ??? Anyway, here is a small pick of my table, it is probably an old Ikea nightstand that has been painted, but I got it cheap and I like it and think it looks kinda oldish. I don't like the color though and I have plans to repaint it in a color that suits me and my room better, i also want to replace the handle on the drawer. But at least now I can slam my drink on my nightstand, the box was sort of starting to give in at the middle and would not have lasted for much longer.
Just to give you a heads up, there are blog entries saved on my computer too make up for the last month of radio silence, will post them soomn when I have a bit less todo, so be warned since they will be backdated.

...wife???
I spent FOUR hours cleaning today, it was my week to clean the kitchen, I cleaned it from top to bottom, including the windows. During that I found out a disadvantage to fireplaces, The windows were black on the inside because of the soot. I have felt that there is more dust in my room and I still cannot get used to opening the window and smelling smoke, where I come from smoke usually means fire, you know the kind you need to call the fire department for.
After the four hours of cleaning I made a vegetarian lasagna to freeze and have to grab when I am to lazy to cook, and to complete my housewife routine I made an applepie. How sad am I, it was a good thing though that I made this for myself and noone else :)
In other news there are few, just trying to stay on top of my statistics, which is deadly boring and trying to arrange a party for the Masterstudents, that is not going to well at the moment.

...helg
The girls came on friday and stayed until today. It was so great to see them and get to spend time with them, but the time was just not enough. They arrived around 11 on friday and we went straigth home and the plan was to hit the town. It takes a while for 3 girls to get ready and they were suffering from a jetlag so we decided to just check out the local bar, five steps outside my house. This bar usually drives me crazy every weekend with loud music and people shouting outside, but when we went down to try it, it was CLOSED!!!! So we just crawled back up, had some beers, caught up and went to bed early.
Going to bed early was not a bad idea since on Saturday the plan was to hit the stores HARD.....starting in HM, then on to Indiska, then about 3 other HM and all the shops in Oslo City, and some more I can't remember. Styles were reinvented, and I finally got to buy something (I haven't been shopping lately cause I knew they were coming). After hours of shopping we were exausted and it was time to hurry home, shower and get ready to go out. Deciding on clothes and restaurant took ages, but when we found Mucho Más we were glad we did not go out earlier and we only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. The food was EXCELLENT, great burritos and quesadillas and enough food, the server might not have been as happy since we spilled the beer and made other trouble as usuall :) After dinner it was onwards to a party at Gudrunarstofa, with the other Icelandic students, after awhile there I persuaded the girls to join me at the Þorrablot, an icelandic ball. There we knew half of the people and Sabine braved the shark and she did swallow it even though I don't think she liked it. To be fair we went on downtown after a short time at the ball and tried a new place I have never been to Hagen on Gronland, by recommendation from Umbrella's stalker.
Sunday's in Norway are family days, people go on walking tours or skiing and EVERYTHING is closed, which was a good thing seeing as we were to hungover and tired to do anything anyway. I had big plans to bake bread for the lunch I had invited B to, but was to tired and lazy. I did manage to make the tuna salad, put food on the table and take B with me to the 7 day's store to buy bread. I was so happy that I got to introduce B to my two oldest and best friends, cause it feels strange to date someone your friends have not even seen. And thankfully everyone got along, at least for those two hours the lunch took.
Om monday I decided to skip class to be with the girls until they had to leave at 13 to catch their flight and Audi and me decided to show Umbrella the sights of Oslo. The sights included, Karl Johan, where some more money was spent, National Teatret, Stortinget and the palace. All of these sights can be enjoyed from Karl Johan anyway so we had more shopping time. I must give the girls, specially Umbrella a big credit for getting all the stuff in their tiny bags.
All too soon it was time for me to watch the girls get on the Airporttrain and leave me. It was so strange to see them go, since I have no idea when I will see them again. I am going to try to stay here this summer so I might not see them until Christmas. Also now I have nothing to look forward to and have to get my ass in to study mode, statistics study mode.....

...wonderland
The third snow of the season fell here on Thursday but today it is pretty much gone. Of ironic that my first year in Norway there is hardly a snowflake in sight while Iceland is literally drowning in snow.
My flight on Monday was an hour and 20 minutes delayed and we had to wait on board for that time. The reason for the delay; the FAX machines at KEF Int did not work.....!!!! That is the high tech if flying people. Thankfully I made the airport train and was "home" just before 1 in the morning. The fear I had about leaving Iceland in the post from KEF disapeared as soon as I got on board the SAS flight and got Dagbladet. I realized then that I know how to do this, I can speak Norwegian and I know Oslo. In fact it took me less time and effort to fall into my pattern here than it did the first days in Iceland. This is where my life is now.
School was a total waste of time though, went to lectures on Tuesday and Wednesday and listened to the lectures read from the powerpoint presentation that was available on the net. Now I have until the 26th of january to finish reading on my thesis, make a research protocol and talk to my supervisor. I don't have classes until the 5th of february. I could have stayed in Iceland for an extra two weeks, at least. Anyway, I am here so I am going to use the time to organize my room ,throw things out, study and maybe do some sightseeing. It also sucks that most of the people I know are not here yet. The only good thing is that I got to see the Boy, in fact I took Thursday off to be with him before he had to go to work. Things are going really good and I want to keep on going forward, but at my pace so for the moment I am just putting one foot in front of the other and the repeat.

» Cute boys visiting....
....again tonight
We had another visit from Oslo's fire department tonight, and they brought their friends the police with them...(by the way, the police are so much cuter). This time however I was just annoyed by the visit. You see the fire alarm went on at the same moment I settled in to watch Gylne Tider and it took so long to clear the building again that I ended up missing almost the entire show. There was something happening on the 11th floor, cause it took so long to clear the building and the police had to take the people living there upstairs to check their rooms. Someone talked about smoke in a TV but I am not shure. So far I have been home for 3 fire alarms, the first as you know was a fire and this was serious, the third one happened a week ago as I was getting in the shower and was likely a false alarm. At least this has taught me that you do not ignore a fire alarm. Also I am getting very good at this, getting dressed well, taking all the important papers with me, the computer and stuff like that, in a very short time.
From the TV program I found out that tonight we had Bruce Boxleitner (Luke Macahan from The Wild Vest), Pamela Sue Martin (Fallon in Dynasty), Keisha Knight Pulliam (little Rudy from the Cosby-show), Aileen Quinn (the redhead from Annie) and Limahl (Never ending story).
Had a great last night, combining alcohol consumption with cake. What is better than a buzz with a touch of a sugarrush? :) The other Icelandic students here in Oslo got together and everyone brought cake, and we ATE, talked, drank and had fun. I made a French chocolate cake, and it turned out that the idea wasn't so great. Went all over Oslo in search of disposable aluminum cake tray (NONE to be found), had to improve with some baking sheets and staples, you can't buy chopped hazelnuts (went with almonds instead) and whipping eggs and sugar together into a fluffy light mix is no pick nick with a wisp (a poor student does not have access to an electronic mixer). It took me more than 30 of whipping to short of get the eggs the way they were supposed to be. Then of course I had to carry the cake to the place, I decided to put it in my Ikea box, but it turned out it was about 1 cm to small so the cake crumbled a bit, but the taste was not harmed. We stumbled home at just before four after I won Gettu Betur (A question board game)

The this morning got up relatively early, went my usual lap around Sognsvann, had some food, studied, and cooked for Sabine.
Next week is going to be busy, have a meeting on Tuesday to decide my Masters Thesis, and then I am fetching the alcohol to sea, drinking the alcohol on Saturday, and last but not least I have a date tomorrow, that will be interesting, if you want more detail you have to tune in or talk to the coffee queen Asaba, she has all the inside info.
In fact it is not just next week that is busy, all my weekends until Christmas are booked, with parties, concerts, moving, Christmas parties, studying and I will be back home before I know it.

...from hell
This week i have been attending a course on ecotoxicology.....what a bore. I have been listening to mostly bad lecturers talking about effects on the genitals of zebrafish and cows.....some of the lectures were ok, but I have not seen much correlation to my field of food safety.
Gylne tider on Sunday was not as great as the first one but still awesome. They had Sabrina from Boys song, and the tabloid report that she was drunk during her video. There was also Pat Sharp (Sky Channel), Lorenzo Lamas (Lance from Falcon Crest), an american icerunner and Bo Derek.
I forgot to tell you who was on the first show. We had Larry Hagman (JR from Dallas), a british skijumper, Richard Kiel (Jaws from James Bond), Linda Evans (from Dynasty) and of course Glenn Medeiros.
What more can I say, I am good, school is busy, mooving soon.....
Finaly there seems to be some social activity waking at my school, on saturday in a week there is a barndance at school. There will be dinner, stand up, band, dancing and aquavit. In fact on tuesday we are goint to sea to get the aquavit. It is kept at sea to get the smooth taste. Then there are some parties with doctors, dentist, and pharmacist coming up.
I totally forgot. I got two messages today, from two different guys, one made me silly happy and the other was a date invitation......

Sunday: Lots of pills to make it through the concert, but it was great Monday: Went to school for module introduction, lasted only half the session, went home and to bed Tuesday: have little or no recollection, slept possibly 20 hours Wednesday: Feeling slightly better, sleeeping only 16 hours Thursday: Feeling almost human again, doing laundry, getting rid of the flu infested sheets and stuff, cleaning the tissue paper all over the place, going food shopping (been survingin on what was in my freezer), and picking up photos from ELKO (trying their service, only 0,5 NOK (5 isk) per picture, let you know how it works), and doing some catch up on school work Friday: going to school and the party Saturday: going to October fest

» Good friends....
....are one of the most valuable things in the world. When one goes away to a new place that is one of the first lessons one learns. Thankfully I have great friends all over the world and I am quickly making new ones her as well. Last friday there was a Culture Night here in Oslo and I and Sabine (from Austria) met up with Julie (from Oslo) and her friends at a bar down town. Then we walked around, took a tour of Radhuset (City council building) including a walk up close to 400 steps to the clock tower. We also saw the salsa band Salsa Amor and they were awesome and reminded me how long it has been since I have heard REAL salsa. Then a week at school followed, on Monday we had a day long library research course that was not very fun but will be useful. After that I went up to Blindern (which is the campus for the University of Oslo). Blindern is very cool, a lot of high buildings, green areas, there is a gym (which I joined and tried out) and there are at least 5 restaurants, a bank, bookstore, hairsalons, market, shop and much more. The campus actually feels like it is made for students. Although it has nothing on the campus at my school, where there is a Horse clinic, an animalhospital for small animals, and big animals like pigs, there is a dog kennel for students and a Marilyn Monroe coffee machine..... :) But at least I can use the facilities at Blindern and I now have a gym card that gives me access to 3 gyms that are both better than Baðhúsið, and I have access to a swimming pool, skiclub, climbing wall and classes. All this for only 6000 ISK a semester....
Yes it is good to be a student in Oslo, everywhere there are student discounts, I get 50% off the subway/trolley/bus pass, I get this mega deal at the student gym, affordable housing, cheaper train and bus rides and so on. Now BUS in Iceland gets a point for their school-card with a swim-card built in, FINALLY.
On other perks, on tuesday we unfortunately had to ride 30 out of Oslo to inspect an ICE CREAM factory :( , I mean we can only eat a limited amount of ice cream. The trip was fun, and we took some interesting samples of the facilities as well as the products.....yes including taste samples, and we now have to write a report.
This picture is taken in front of NVH canteen and on the left are Monica (Brazil/Norway) and Julie, to the right we have Sabine and Christian (Trondheim)
In fact I have the next weeks off, the rest of this week I worked on my presentation and will work on it along side the ice cream report until thursday and friday when the presentations are due. The week after this next one will be a reading week, and I have plans with Sabine to break that up with some sightseeing and next friday there is a big international party where we are going to celebrate our excellent presentations.
Here where I live there are these postboxes where you go to check your mail, on wednesday I went there and I met a girl I know from Iceland that lives in Sabine's block. I had no idea she was going here and there are only 20 students in the Icelandic Student Union here in Oslo, what are the chances that two of them know each other. This is a small world we live in.

...that my currently favorite place in this new city is at the top floor of the old shcool building in the computer lounge? Before you judge it does not only have to do with the fact that this is one of only a handful of places I can get online (hey I need my www.mbl.is and blogfix) but the view here is also very spectacual. I am bringing a camera to school tomorrow and taking a picture of the view to show you, along with a few other things here on campus that are STRANGE....
Oh and I found a coffee place across from school, right by my busstop and the coffee is good and not very expensive
